Background And Achievements
Israel Martinez stands as one of the most decorated wrestlers and coaches to emerge from the state of Illinois. Throughout his remarkable career, he has attained success both as a competitor and as a mentor. From his early days as a youth wrestler to his influential role as head wrestling coach for Jackson Wink MMA Academy, Israel’s impact on the sport is undeniably significant.
Youth And High School Wrestling
Israel’s journey in wrestling began during his youth, where he compiled a record-breaking career in the state of Illinois. His impressive accomplishments include five state titles and the distinguished Marty Combe and Ron Irwin awards, reserved for the state’s finest wrestlers in different age groups. Transitioning to high school, Israel wrestled for West Aurora High School, earning three state titles with a career record of 118-1. Notably, his sole loss resulted from an illegal slam that led to a medical forfeit. Alongside his high school achievements, he excelled in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, becoming a three-time All-American in Freestyle and a two-time All-American in Greco-Roman at prestigious national championships.
College Career And Coaching
Following high school, Israel continued his wrestling journey at North Idaho College, securing an NJCAA Junior College National Championship at 157lbs with an undefeated record of 27-0 in 2002. Although his college career was cut short, Israel’s competitive drive remained unyielding. In 2003, he embarked on coaching youth and high school wrestling, establishing the Izzy Style School of Wrestling in 2005. Under his guidance, the school has produced numerous state and national champions, including notable wrestlers like Jordan Blanton (3x NCAA All-American) and Tony Ramos (2014 NCAA Champion). Israel’s coaching prowess extended to the Montini Catholic High School, where his leadership as an assistant coach helped the Broncos secure three consecutive Team State Championships from 2007 to 2009. After assuming the role of head coach in 2009, he led the team to four consecutive Team State Championships from 2010 to 2014.
