Proper nutrition for UFC fighters is of the utmost importance. Not only does it help them stay healthy and in shape, but it also helps the fighters maintain their weight. As you may already know, fighters must maintain certain body weight if they want o compete in UFC matches. They can check out the best online casino while eating a meal but they can’t gain any weight.
Because of this, every UFC fighter has a unique nutrition plan, which is more complicated than any other sport. But what happens when a fighter misses weight? Well, they can get a fine and/or get disqualified from the match. With that in mind, here’s what UFC fighters eat every day.
A Balanced Diet
Most UFC fighters have personal nutritionists who prepare a plan for them. The plan will vary on what the fighter needs and what they like to eat. The key is in the balanced diet that will provide your body with everything it needs. That includes carbs, fats, proteins and, of course, every vitamin and mineral the body needs to function properly.
How the nutrition plan will be distributed depends on the fighter. Some prefer to actually eat healthy and well-balanced meals while others mash everything together into drinkable shakes. The real issue is eating well while losing weight. For some matches, fighters must lose several pounds in order to qualify and that’s a lot harder than it seems.
Foods To Avoid
As fighters follow a strict diet plan there are things they must void at all costs. That includes junk food, of course, but there are a few exceptions where fighters can indulge themselves in not-so-healthy and less-nutritious foods. Moreover, keto diets are generally best avoided by UFC fighters as they need carbs for energy.
Sweets, alcohol and processed foods are also best avoided altogether, although coffee and tea are allowed in some cases. The only exception to this rule goes to fighters in the heavyweight division. These folks can eat pretty much anything they want as they don’t need to lose weight. Most choose to eat healthy though.
What Do Fighters Actually Eat?
It all depends on individual’s preferences. Almost every fighter eats meat, fruits and vegetables as their nutrition plan. Some prefer pescetarianism and avoid all types of meat except seafood from which they get the majority of proteins.
Fighters will also choose bread, potatoes or rice as their source of carbs, while most of their vitamin and mineral intake comes from fresh fruits and vegetables. Each meal is different, and each day has different dishes for fighters to choose from.
The key is to eat healthy and maintain peak physical condition while also cutting down on body weight. This is extremely difficult to achieve even with a great combo of training and diet. A lot of fighters haven’t managed to make weight before the match because of this.
Eating a healthy and well-balanced meal each day is essential for UFC fighters. Without a proper nutrition plan, fighters are at risk of not making weight and thus getting penalized for it.
