2020 is heading to its final quarter and the UFC has had a great year. The promotion still has big fights lined up before this pandemic-hit year is over but there are still big fights that have yet to happen.
Here are the Top 5 UFC bouts to make to end the year or to open 2021:
Jon Jones Vs Brock Lesnar
Jon Jones is one of the top MMA super fighters today. The former UFC light heavyweight champion is considered the GOAT of the 205-pound weight class and has been talking about moving up to the heavyweight division. On the other hand, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is a free agent again after his contract with the WWE expired. Lesnar is a huge PPV draw and UFC President Dana White says he’s willing to make this fight happen.
Holly Holm Vs Amanda Nunes
Holly Holm’s fight against Amanda Nunes at UFC 239 did not go as planned, but with the dearth of challengers in the division, Holm may be, as her coach says – one fight away from another title shot. The Preacher’s Daughter has a fight against Irene Aldana next month and if she wins convincingly, Holm might get another crack at Nunes. The Lioness has looked unstoppable, but given Holm’s world-class boxing background, she’s the one fighter who can figure out Amanda Nunes on the second try.
Stipe Miocic Vs Francis Ngannou
These heavyweights have fought before at UFC 220 and Miocic won a one-sided decision. Since that bout, Miocic is 2-1 with all bouts against Daniel Cormier. Meanwhile, Ngannou has been on a tear with four straight first round stoppages after his loss to Derrick Lewis. The opening odds for this rematch are out with Illinois Online Gambling sites putting Ngannou as favorite over the champion. Miocic disagrees, so let these big men rumble next.
Leon Edwards Vs Jorge Masvidal
Leon Edwards is the UFC’s newest star. Rocky is the 3rd ranked welterweight in the UFC and he was supposed to challenge Kamaru Usman at UFC 251. Masvidal ended up getting that fight, losing to Usman in Abu Dhabi. Edwards and Masvidal don’t have opponents yet and both had a backstage confrontation at UFC London last year where Masvidal gave Edwards a “three piece with the soda”. It’s about time that they settle their differences.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Tony Ferguson
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s next title defense will be at UFC 254 to kick off the second Fight Island series. Ferguson is fighting Dustin Poirier, potentially on the same card. If Khabib beats Justin Gaethje and Ferguson sparks Poirier on the same night, then we may see this fight get booked for the 6th time early next year. We’ve seen this bout get called off five times before, but these are still the top lightweights in the business. Let’s get this booked before it becomes an irrelevant fight.
