ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – They are a pair of world champions who are training together. Combat legends Holly Holm and Cris Cyborg hold a lot of experience and championships between the two of them in multiple combat sports. They even faced one another in a UFC matchup, won by Cyborg, back in 2017.
The pair have now teamed up at Jackson and Wink Academy in Albuquerque, as Holm prepares to face Olympic gold medalist and former PFL featherweight champion Kayla Harrison on April 13. “She’s a great training partner,” said Holm. You know, there’s like, the hard work. So, like I said, she’s just an amazing individual. I’m super blessed to be able to learn with her, learn from her for this fight coming up.”
Cyborg, the current Bellator featherweight champion, said she tried to set up her own fight with Harrison before the fight with Holm was announced. Cyborg believes Harrison is dodging her because talks to get them together always broke down. When she saw Harrison set to make her UFC debut by fighting Holm, Cyborg thought it was a good time for her and Holm to get together, this time to train.
“Kayla always talked about me for three years and then she runs away to UFC,” said Cyborg. “Now she’s going to fight Holly Holm. I said no way. I need to go there to help Holly.”
While Holm and Cyborg match their MMA skills they will also include the sweet science. Cyborg has started to dabble in boxing and has only the fourth match of her career coming on April 23. Holm is a former world champion boxer. Holm and Harrison will meet at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 13.
